"This Is Me"

Atlantic Records, which released “The Greatest Showman” album, a companion of music from the film, announced that the anthem song “This Is Me” has been streamed more than 160 million times globally, and that the soundtrack is approaching one billion streams worldwide.

Music can evoke powerful emotions and strike a chord in the heart of humanity. “This is Me” has tapped into that core of who we were created to be.

“THIS IS ME,” sung by Keala Settle and The Greatest Showman Ensemble

(written by Benj Pasek and Justin Paul)

I am not a stranger to the dark Hide away, they say 'Cause we don't want your broken parts I've learned to be ashamed of all my scars Run away, they say No one'll love you as you are

But I won't let them break me down to dust I know that there's a place for us For we are glorious

When the sharpest words wanna cut me down I'm gonna send a flood, gonna drown them out I am brave, I am bruised I am who I'm meant to be, this is me Look out 'cause here I come And I'm marching on to the beat I drum I'm not scared to be seen I make no apologies, this is me

It’s a POWERFUL song. This song resonates deeply because our world has a distorted view of value and worth. This song reminds us of our flawed thinking. It forces us to consider who we are and why we were created.

Recently, the new president of the University of Valley Forge, Dr. David Kim, was speaking on Ephesians 2:8-10 and noted the Greek word used in verse 10.

v.10 “For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.”

The word translated into “handiwork” is “Poiema”. It is the very word from which we get the word “poetry” or “poem.” Wow! The English translation lacks so much dimension in this context.

Are you capturing this truth?

You are God’s poem…you are God’s artistic creation…you are God’s masterpiece!

The intricacies of language. The beauty of rhythm. The masterful creation of God Himself!

Value is not ascribed by the sentiments of others. Value is not rooted in worldly affirmation. Value is not generated by your performance. Value is not attributed based on your comparison with others.

Your value is firmly established by the One who masterfully created you as a beautifully crafted poem, with rich colors and a deeply unique storyline that is YOURS. Full of redemption. Full of grace. Full of passion. Full of Him. This is me. This is you. This is who you “were meant to be…”
